Picture this: someone just moved to Canada, maybe escaping difficult circumstances back home. They're smart, capable, and have so much to offer—but the language barrier makes everything harder. Getting groceries, talking to their kids' teachers, even making friends feels overwhelming.

That's where you come in.
When you volunteer with CCI-LEX, you're not just teaching English words and grammar. You're giving people the tools to feel at home here. You're helping a mother understand her child's report card, or giving a skilled worker the confidence to interview for jobs in their field.

Think you need to be a trained teacher? Think again. CCI-LEX welcomes people from every walk of life. Maybe you're a student looking for hands-on experience, a retiree wanting to give back, or someone switching careers who wants to try teaching. Whatever your background, they'll give you everything you need to succeed.

Here's what CCI-LEX provides: lesson plans already made for you, step-by-step curriculum, and training that actually prepares you for the classroom. You won't be thrown in without support.

What you'll be doing:
— Leading a 2-3 hour English class each week, or filling in for other teachers a few times monthly
— Sticking with them for at least 6 months (trust us, you'll want to see your students progress)
— Being 18 or older and comfortable speaking English
— Using basic computer skills for materials and online teaching tools
— Following good volunteer practices
— Completing their application and training

What's in it it for you?
You'll gain real experience working with people from different cultures and backgrounds. After 25 hours of volunteering, they'll write you a reference letter. You'll get solid training, lesson plans handed to you, ongoing support, and access to workshops to keep improving. Plus, you'll meet other volunteers who care about the same things you do. They'll recognize your contributions and give you proof of your volunteer hours.

Whether you prefer teaching from home online or meeting students face-to-face, you're helping people build the confidence they need to thrive here. CCI-LEX especially needs volunteers starting in September 2025, and there might be some summer in-person opportunities too.

Ready to make a real difference? Your time investment helps newcomers and refugees not just learn English, but truly connect with their new community in Canada.
