Description: The role involves assisting fosters and staff with handling difficult dog behavior, ensuring the well-being of the animals under the organization's care.
Reports To: The position reports to either the Foster & Adoption Manager or the Intake & Medical Manager, depending on the specific assignment.
Schedule and Time Commitment: The schedule varies but typically requires a commitment of 3-5 hours per week, with a minimum duration of 3 months.
Location: This role is primarily remote, allowing volunteers to contribute from their preferred location.
Core Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Foster & Adoption Manager, the Intake & Medical Manager, and/or the Foster Coordinator to identify fosters in need of behavior assistance.
Initiate contact with the assigned foster within 24 hours to discuss the pet's behavior, collecting comprehensive information and details.
Provide guidance and recommendations to address unwanted behaviors, offering advice and strategies for improvement.
Refer cases to the Foster & Adoption and Intake & Medical Managers when necessary, allowing them to determine appropriate next steps, such as involving a vet-behaviorist.
Create a behavior profile/progress report for each pet based on the collected information, including challenges/behaviors, suggestions, what is working, and what is not working.
Copy relevant team members on all written communications with fosters.
Training: Training will be provided by the Foster & Adoption Manager and the Intake & Medical Manager to equip volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
Must hold a certification in dog training.
Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
Ability to follow instructions from managers and coordinators.
Familiarity with various canine behaviors and corrective methodologies for addressing unwanted behaviors.
Willingness to learn about animal behavior and enjoy working with both animals and people.
