Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles in Philadelphia is seeking volunteers to help with their new furniture and accessories line, NZO - African Styles at Home and Abroad. The project involves painting donated furniture, home decor, and home goods with African-inspired prints and designs. The organization provides eco-friendly paints, brushes, stencils, and all other necessary materials.
The volunteer opportunity is ideal for artists, painters, visual art students, and interior designers who want to contribute to self-determination and economic development by and for the African community. The project provides a chance to build a portfolio while supporting a great cause. New pieces are added to the inventory regularly, so volunteers will always have something new to work on.
Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is located at 832 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19130, and volunteer orientations are held every Thursday night at 5:30 pm on the second floor of the store. Interested individuals can sign up for the orientation in-store or call 215-546-9616 (x3) to reserve a spot. The organization prefers to work with volunteers local to the greater Philadelphia area.
Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is an economic development project of the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF.org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. APEDF aims to address the disparities in education, health, healthcare, and economic development faced by the African community. Through the sale of donated, quality furniture and collectibles, Uhuru Furniture raises resources to support the programs and institutions of APEDF. APEDF welcomes contributions from everyone who supports their goals.
