The role of an Usher or Audience Attendant is to provide information and orientation to audience members attending a cultural event. This is a customer service role responsible for ensuring a pleasant experience for attendees. As an Usher, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks and responsibilities including scanning tickets, helping attendees find their seats, handing out programs and other items, settling seating disputes, guiding attendees to exits and toilets, ensuring audience members are not using their phones or recording equipment during the performance, selling refreshments and snacks during intervals, managing the audience in emergency situations, checking for safety issues, and communicating with other theatre staff to ensure the smooth running of the show.

This volunteer position also provides the opportunity to learn valuable skills such as how a not-for-profit arts organization works, customer service skills, communication skills, leadership skills, and working with customers. The Usher will report to the Front of House Manager.
