Prisma Health Hospice is a non-profit organization serving the community since 1979. We are licensed by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) to care for terminally ill patients and their families. We offer support of an interdisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers who provide medical, emotional, social, and spiritual support to our patients.
All hospice volunteers must complete the appropriate training course and be willing to volunteer at least 2-4 hours per week. If assigned to a patient, the expectation is a minimum of 4 hours per week. If not assigned to patient, the expectation is 2-4 hours in another capacity rather than patient care.
There are a myriad of options to choose from whenever considering patient care and/or administrative/clerical assistance.
For Direct Patient Care:
Provide companionship, respite, or emotional support to patients and/or family
Provide transportation, assist families with household chores and run errands
Reading to patients, listening to music, watching movies, baking, etc
Writing cards or letters for patient
Offer patient and/or loved ones to complete any task for them that is non-medical, meaning volunteers do not do bathing, grooming, dressing, changing, toileting or feeding
For Administrative Duties:
Assembling admission/information packets
Assisting a specific hospice manager with completing a one time task and/or ongoing duties
Stuffing envelops for mailings
Data entry duties
Filing and coping
There are many more tasks or activities that someone can offer to our staff, to a patient and/or their loved ones. If you feel you have something to offer or you want to assist with any or all of the ideas listed above, then you are someone that I would like to talk with at your earliest convenience.
