QUICK OVERVIEW
Join 826LA's volunteer cohort to be a part of a community that believes in investing in young people's love of writing!
MISSION
826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around our understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
IMPACT
826LA provides tutoring and creative writing programs for thousands of Los Angeles students each year.
826LA's Roosevelt High School Writers' Room is looking for passionate and caring volunteers to help students with engaging writing projects! Our Writers' Room is an on-campus space dedicated to supporting students through the writing process on projects that include creative writing, personal statement essays, resume writing, and class assignments.
Your support as a volunteer is vital to our mission of providing guidance to students that need it most through one-on-one attention helping to reduce the student-to-teacher ratio and inspiring students to discover their inner author.
VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteers work directly in the classroom as tutors and mentors with our students. Volunteers inspire and guide students with engaging writing projects
REQUIREMENTS
826LA Volunteers must complete a Live Scan background check. This requirement will be reviewed at orientation.
To become a volunteer, please sign up for an orientation! Upcoming orientations as follows.
In-Person: Saturday, December 3, 10 AM - 11:30 AM @ Echo Park Writing Lab (1714 W. Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026)
Virtual via Zoom: Thursday, December 8, 10 AM - 11 AM
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Volunteer sessions take place at Roosevelt High School anytime between 8 am - 4 pm and run anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
