Job purpose

The Community Literature Initiative (CLI) is seeking an Assistant Grants Writer to join our Grants and Donations team. In this role, you will assemble and submit grant requests, establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with foundations, conduct prospect research, and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines. You will write and submit Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), grant proposals, and grant reports to private, corporate, and government funders.
You will, in partnership with the other Assistant Grants Writers, play a key role in persuasively communicating CLI’s mission and programs to potential funders. Reporting to the Grant Manager / Development Director, you will ensure grants and donations meet both the financial and operational needs of CLI.
Goal: To raise $360,000 for the upcoming academic year 800/200 Sponsorship

Duties and responsibilities

Research and identify available grant opportunities and evaluate in accordance to the operational and financial needs of CLI
Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers
Write and submit LOIs and full grant proposals for private foundation, corporate, and government funders; persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs
Report invoicing, budget accounting, grant reporting, and other administrative functions to ensure successful execution of grant process
Update calendars related to grants, contracts, reporting and fundraising events
Compile and prepare detailed reports and presentation materials for the funding board meetings, as well as attend necessary meetings

Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses the following:

Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, G Suite, Asana, and ability to learn additional software programs
Experience with prospect research, online grant databases, and grant writing
Excellent command over writing, analytical, and research skills
Highly organized, self-motivated, team player mentality
Interest in any of the following: poetry, creative writing, grant writing
