ACADEMIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Recruiting: 12 Members; Chair person, Vice Chair person, Secretary, General Committee Members

I’RAISE is seeking Academic Advisory Committee membersto offer advice and share their perspective with the faculty of I'RAISE Generation Z College Preparation Program.

Our new initiative, Generation-Z College Preparation Program, is a program that makes college accessible and not just an impossible dream for Black youth. This project is an imperative program that gives Black youth a way out of poverty by way of advanced college courses being accessible in early high school years and empowering under-resourced high school students to unlock their potential while gaining access to new careers.

As an Academic Advisory Committee you will:

Work together as a team to support and improve the academic programs offered within the Generation Z College Preparation program.
Offer support to the students and faculty by providing insight stemming from their diverse professional backgrounds.
Act as a main source within the program whoo make sure the needs of the students are met while acting in accordance with the I’RAISE mission.
Create the rubrics for each Gen-Z College Course outlining the grading system for academic assignments. The rubrics are provided to students along with the course syllabus prior to commencement of the program. Student assessments are broken down by percentage in the following criteria:
Attendance, participation, and professionalism -- 10%
Assignments -- 30%
Presentations -- 30%
Exams -- 30%
Offer advice and support to administrators and professors in our Generation-Z College Preparation Program
Assess and improve curriculum to deliver quality educational programs
Implement policies and procedures ensuring ethical and professional delivery of introductory college courses
Advise students concerning their academics plan, progress, academic schedule, choices of major and other career goals.
Provide advice about learning track requirements, options within their tracks, requirements of two learning tracks, and other matters related to the learning tracks.
Lay out a plan to provide academic support to our instructors and approve all curriculum and coursework.
Set a plan for mentors to provide college advice to students on selecting the right college, preparing their applications, and preparing them for college interviews.
Explore financial aid options and scholarships with students. Advisers may also advise students on selecting internship placements.

ADVISORY

The Academic Advisory Committee consists of a consortium of current faculty from New York University, Columbia University and Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and CUNY. These faculty sit on our advisory committee and serve as members for a one year term.

Qualifications
Professional with years of experience in teaching college students OR
Current college professor or teacher or TA OR
Retired professor or retired teacher OR
A graduate or PhD student with degree in:
Entrepreneurship
Medical Science
Law
IT
Sports Management
Social Service
Political Science
Requirements:
Must provide 3 professional or academic reference
Must pass any background check clearance requirements
Time: 4 to 5 hours per week
Commitment: 1 year term
