Who We Are:
KARA Family Resource Centre is a dynamic grassroots organization founded 37 years ago with the vision of offering support to low income, single mothers. KARA has since evolved to providing a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space for clients of all socio-economic backgrounds and family structure. At KARA, we build meaningful relationships with clients, “meeting them where they are at” in their current life and family circumstance, offering parenting education, family support, early childhood developmental screening, and information and referral services. KARA strives to create safe and inclusive experiences that support clients in their parenting and family life.
Who We are Looking For:
KARA is seeking BOARD MEMBERS who are committed too and passionate about children and their families. We are seeking individuals of diverse personal and professional backgrounds who can help govern and lead the agency to create opportunities for people to experience positive change in their lives.
We have identified the following skills needed for at least one of our current vacancies:
- Legal / Law
- Human Resources
- Communications
- Marketing & Special event planning
- Contractor & Building development
The Role:
KARA is currently in an opportunity to further grow and develop it’s services and supports to children, families and the community Board Members will provide governance in the development of new policies and strategic direction for the agency alongside the Executive Director. As such we are seeking individuals with the following knowledge, skills, and attributes:
- Proven Leadership experience and abilities
- Understanding of Board Governances policies
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive, proactive and progressive attitude with good professional judgement
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with fellow board members and partners in the community
- Act as a spokesperson and community liaison for KARA Family Resource Center
- Promote KARA Family Resource Centre positively within our community
- Actively seek partnership and collaboration opportunities
- Attend board meetings, Annual General Meetings, and Board Committee/Special meetings as required
- Attend fundraising and special events that are hosted by KARA Family Resource Centre
Time Commitment:
- The Board meets for 1 to 1.5 hours the following months: January, February, March *AGM, April, May, June, September, October, November
- Fundraising Events
- Commitment of a minimum 2-year term would be of best benefit to agency
