Evening Meal Delivery Driver

Drivers Life/Accountability:
A volunteer driver can expect a demanding yet rewarding experience. There are strict delivery timelines to
meet and you must be able to communicate well, take direction and work independently most of the time to
meet those timelines.

Specific Duties:
1. Pick up frozen meals, groceries and food bank hampers at the Edmonton Meals on Wheels office (11111
103 Ave.) and deliver them according to route list within the allotted time
2. Briefly visit with the client, keeping a positive, non judgemental attitude
3. Note any changes in clients’ behaviour or other client concerns. Report these changes to staff
4. Report any undelivered meals to staff by telephoning the cell number provided
5. Shred the route sheet when the deliveries are complete
6. Phone the cell number provided when you have completed your deliveries
7. Keep the carry bags in your vehicle and return them to Meals on Wheels the next delivery evening
8. Provide sufficient notice when absences are necessary

Essential Functions:
1. Physical ability to perform the job as outlined
2. Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs. using both hands
3. Ability to use good judgment in all situations
4. Ability to communicate orally with clients, staff and volunteers
5. Ability to work with people of different ages and abilities who are from a variety of backgrounds
6. Ability to accept and give supervision and guidance
7. Able to maintain confidentiality

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Be at least 18 years of age
2. Must be currently licensed, have a registered and insured vehicle
3. Clear criminal record check
4. Must receive and follow instruction well with a good attitude
5. Have a good work ethic and be accountable and committed
6. Ability to speak and understand English
7. Must demonstrate an ability to follow proper food handling procedures
8. Have a general knowledge of safe food handling and/or food service.

Commitment:
From once a month to five times a week – we can work with your schedule! However volunteers must be
able to commit to more than a one-time volunteer experience.

Deliveries take place between 4:30-7:30pm. Meal pick up should occur prior to 5:30pm. If you are going to
miss your volunteer assignment, please contact the office. This is a courtesy to the staff and we ask that you
please be diligent in fulfilling this responsibility. Three consecutive absences without contact to the agency
may result in termination.
