Description
The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem is committed to providing high academic support and educational help to our members. One of our core values is to increase student achievement, and academic volunteers help us achieve that goal. Volunteers' academic support allows our members to learn outside the classroom and get a full understanding of any particular subject.

We are seeking university students, corporates, and members of the local community to volunteer as Academic Support Tutors to support youth members.

Volunteer tutors are an integral part of our center. Volunteers act as role models, supporting academic progress, and providing inspiration and encouragement to young people for whom university education is not necessarily a common expectation.

Key Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist students with their homework and ensure there is a full understanding of what the subject is. It is important that students understand their school work more than simply completing the homework.

Qualifications: Volunteers should have an understanding of elementary level math, science, reading, and writing.

Time Commitment: The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem asks for a commitment of 10 hours per month to ensure volunteers are learning more about our members and assist them further. BGCHarlem has opportunities throughout the day during our programming 8 am-3 pm and 3:30 pm-6 pm.

Training/Support: Volunteers will be trained on interacting with members as well as Boys and Girls Club policies. This will include a regular check-in that ensures volunteers feel supported within the program area.

Benefits: By offering your knowledge, patience, encouragement, and skills, you are giving students access to resources to advance their education. Building a safe community.

All Volunteers 18 and older are required to fill out a background check form before volunteering. Submit a Volunteer Application. Sign release forms that allow us to perform the screening process. Lastly, Fingerprinting and Medical screening are required based on the New York State Department of Health Guidelines

Boys & Girls Club of Harlem adheres to all CDC, NYS Office of Children & Family Service protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
