Description
Due to predictions for an active hurricane and wildfire season and the complexities of COVID-19, the Red Cross will need dozens of local volunteers to care for people when disasters strike. During the current pandemic, we have new guidelines and safety precautions for sheltering designed to keep our workers and clients safe. This means that during a disaster, we will need more volunteers than ever before because we will be opening up substantially more shelters than we would have prior to COVID-19.

Train now to be a Ready Red Cross Shelter Volunteer so you can answer the call when your community needs it most!
We will need volunteers to help support emergency shelters by staffing vital areas like reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, health services care and information collection. We have both shelter associate and supervisory level opportunities available depending on your experience.

You can become a short-term seasonal volunteer in three easy steps:
1. Complete your volunteer application at redcross.org/volunteertoday
2. Complete 3 hours of required training (6 hours for supervisor role)
3. Commit to work up to five volunteer shifts (4-, 6- or 12-hour shifts) during a two-week period if needed
4. You have reviewed the CDC guidance for people who are at higher risk for severe illness, and feel comfortable working in a shelter environment
