Volunteer Librarians at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum act as an ambassador to their collection of railroading books, magazines, and other materials within the Erwin Welsch Research Library. Volunteer Librarians will be under the direction of their two head Librarians and the Curator of Collections

.The museum is looking for a volunteer who is familiar with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. The museum has started a digitization project where our collection of railroad photos and slides are going to be digitized and uploaded online. You do not need to have any knowledge about railroads and trains. We are looking for someone who has an interest in learning more about the railroad history and/or using their Photoshop skills to help us with this project. Note: This position does not run model trains

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Getting Started: All volunteers interested in becoming a docent must complete the San Diego Model Railroad Museum's application form.

Time Commitment: Volunteer Librarians must train for 5 shifts then must commit to a minimum of 2 shifts per month for a minimum of 6 months. Shifts take place from 10:00am - 3:30pm, including breaks. The library is currently open Thursday - Saturday with the potential to open additional days.

Required Skills/Experience:

An interest in research.

Highly organized and able to follow established standards and procedures.

Previous experience with computer programs (Word, Google Drive, Excel) a must.

Experience with Library World and/or PastPerfect a plus

Ability to work well and communicate with others.

Interest in learning about trains is a plus.

Ability to work on own, and self-motivate.

Physical Requirements: The library is accessed via staircase. Ability to physically walk and climb stairs. Ability to bend, squat and lift up to 15-20 pounds.
