Volunteers will assist clients with legal advocacy and completing and understanding legal documentation.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work in a non-judgmental manner with individuals whose beliefs systems may be based on different values
Provide assistance to clients filling out legal documentation. Common needs are: child support requests, eviction, SSI/SSDI denial appeals, fair housing violations, and expunging records
May be asked to accompany client as an advocate to court hearings
Will need to direct clients on how to file their documents, with assistance in getting paperwork to the courthouse, if needed
Provide documentation to case managers and other volunteers on any progress on documentation and on follow up that is still needed following each visit
OTHER:

Proficiency in English (written and spoken language skills)
Conversational fluency in other languages is a bonus
Must have access to a phone
PREFERRED:

Experience filling out and/or filing legal documents
Experience with courtroom proceedings for evictions, child support and/or custody cases, record expungements, or claims appeals
Ability to provide legal advice and/or services is highly desired
WORK LOCATION: Primarily in office, but may need to work with some clients in home or remotely.

Typical shifts will be 2 hours weekly, during business hours. Hours are flexible.

EDUCATION: High school diploma.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check
