Hotline Advocate Role Description
TITLE: Volunteer Crisis Intervention Advocate
DESCRIPTION: The DC Rape Crisis Center is one of the country’s first rape crisis centers. Beyond providing therapeutic support to survivors, the DC Rape Crisis Center consciously works towards building a consent based society. At the heart of DCRCC’s clinical approach is a deep understanding of the intersectionality of oppression and how racial injustice and gender based violence are linked. The DC Rape Crisis Center (DCRCC) is looking to expand their crisis intervention advocate program to meet the increasing needs of survivors.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Advocates are trained to provide crisis support to survivors of sexual assault, loved ones of survivors, and professionals through our 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year confidential crisis support hotline. Advocates take calls during scheduled times every month. There are times that advocates may also be invited to voluntarily provide on-site support as their schedule allows.
TIME COMMITMENT: After successfully completing the DCRCC hotline training program, Advocates will:
Make a consistent commitment of at least one year to DCRCC unless other arrangements are made through the Hotline Coordinator
Advocates will commit to serve 12 hours each month of their service
Attend monthly supervision
Attend a refresher training once a year
TRAINING COMMITMENT: Training is extensive, equipping Advocates with the tools they need to provide crisis intervention on the hotline. Required training will be a combination of in person and online lessons totaling 40 hours.
TO APPLY: To apply, contact our Hotline Coordinator, Lindsay Summers, at 202-710-2740/lsummers@dcrcc.org.
Have a nice day!
