Description
The voices of young cancer patients are vital in making sure Young Lives vs Cancer is making the right content, at the right time for our service user audiences. That’s why we’re building a Content Creator Group made up of young people who have had experience of cancer (you don’t necessarily need to have had cancer yourself - you could have a child or a sibling who has) to inform and help create that content. If that’s you and you are aged 16-25 years old read on to find out what it’s all about.

Working closely with the Young Lives vs Cancer Communications and Engagement team, you’ll have lots of opportunities to use your creativity to be part of content creation from start to finish. The group will lead on coming up with ideas for topics, delivery methods and practically create the content for sharing through various channels. The content you create will be used to help raise awareness and funds for the charity, as well as build connections for children and young people with cancer.

You will be able to develop your skills and knowledge, grow in confidence and make a real contribution as you collaborate as part of the Communications and Engagement team and you’ll be able to see first-hand what goes into creating content for our digital platforms, from drafting an idea to editing the finished product. There will be an opportunity to get involved with other aspects of work too including being a feedback and expert group for all areas of communications work.

What you’ll be doing

Working as part of the Young Lives vs Cancer Communications team to develop creative social media content for use on Young Lives vs Cancer social media accounts, this might involve creating a video, speaking on a video, shaping a real-life story, or being part of image creation (and beyond)
Using your lived experience to advise the Young Lives vs Cancer Communications Team on how to approach different topics for young people with cancer, including suggesting topics and brainstorming sessions
Offering feedback on Young Lives vs Cancer digital platforms, previous content and communications plans
Attending a Content Creators group meeting once a week, attending a quarterly content planning meeting with the Communications team, and setting aside time for creating content (approximately four hours per week).
The beauty of being part of the Content Creator Group is that you can be totally flexible in the time and skills you give over the length of your volunteering. If one week you don’t have time, the group is there to work together to get things done. We do however ask that you commit as much as possible to the weekly meeting and quarterly planning meeting.

You will have a strong understanding of a range of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok and have experience of or be willing to learn about creating different kinds of video content.

You will have a willingness to share your story whilst considering other young people's experience and be passionate about Young Live’s vs Cancer’s mission.

This is a remote based role with the option to be based from our Hammersmith W6 8JA office when this is possible. We’re asking for a time commitment of approximately 4 hours per week and can be flexible to fit in with your other commitments. You must be based in the UK to be considered for this role.

You will have a comprehensive induction and ongoing training for the role and the support of a dedicated volunteer manger.
