About the Organization

The Institute for Criminal Justice Training Reform (The Institute) is the only nonprofit organization in the United States addressing criminal justice reform by focusing on law enforcement education. The Institute uses evidence-based research and advocacy to advance the quality of criminal justice delivery, prevent harm, and produce better outcomes across all communities.


The Opportunity

The Institute is seeking a Social Media Manager to help develop and execute an integrated communications strategy tailored to raise the organization’s public profile, influence, and reach. The role reports to the Director of Communications, and will be an integral part of the Institute’s leadership team. As the Institute continues its rapid growth, the Manager will work closely with the Director and the Communications team, as well as across the organization, to prepare the Institute for success at its future scale. To that end, the Social Media Manager will help develop and execute on a social media strategy across all social media channels to establish the Institute as the leading authority on law enforcement training reform, promote its mission, increase online engagement, and support the Institute’s audience development goals.


Key Responsibilities

Oversee and maintain the Institute’s social media posting schedule, including managing its Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds.
Work collaboratively across the Enterprise to identify opportunities for engagement of social audiences to promote the Institute’s mission and portfolio of projects and campaigns.
Develop and post content for key advocacy campaigns and organize and control the dissemination of information on our organization's behalf through social media.
Works with communications staff and other stakeholders to develop press release, blog, and other materials into concise and compelling social media content.
Stay up-to-date on current events relating to the Institute’s work and identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of the Institute’s mission and work, and position it as a thought leader.
Collaborate quickly and effectively with Enterprise stakeholders and the Director of Communications to create content in moments of breaking news.
Ensure that the Institute’s social media content and strategy are aligned with the organization’s policy and position on all key issues.
Manage a team to systematically monitor, track, and trend audience data and performance analytics to determine success of social media campaigns in reaching and engaging key audiences for each platform, and make evidence-based improvements.
Stays abreast of social media trends and emerging practices to evaluate and recommend new social media initiatives.
Works with digital advocacy and campaign organizers to develop and run paid ads campaigns for maximum impact
Help build and manage a team of volunteers working to advance the Institute’s mission to advocate for meaningful training reform.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field from an accredited college or university; or
Equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
Experience

Three or more years of progressive experience in social media analysis.
Management of social media channels.
Oversight of a social media team.
Experience in social media advocacy and content creation.

Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated success in copywriting and editing.
Ability to distill complex content and translate it into simple and compelling messaging.
Understanding of analytics, social media trends, emerging platforms, and best practices are key.
Ability to work confidently and calmly around breaking news and sensitive subjects is a must.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Solid understanding of project management principles.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and work to optimize existing processes, and the resourcefulness to innovate and conceptualize opportunities not defined by existing processes.

Location

The Institute has a global workforce and the role is fully remote.
