Description
The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem is committed to providing youth access and opportunities to reach their full potential. General Support Volunteers help achieve that goal. The Boys and Girls Club serves members from 5-18, and increasing the adult to member count allows a more meaningful experience for members. Support volunteers will enable us to run programs more effectively because more individuals can assist in facilitation.

Location: The volunteer position is located at either our main clubhouse at 521 W 145th Street, New York, or one of our partner schools (P.S 368, P.S 133, P.S 92, and P.S 241)

Key Responsibilities: Club Support volunteers will assist club staff and members in ensuring a fun and safe environment for all. This role is to ensure our members are getting the most out of their club experience. Provide programmatic and operational support to the organization. This could be academic support, walking students to different programs, and assisting staff with program facilitation.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is desired; however, not required. Volunteers must also be able to pass a background check if over the age of 18 and have parental permission if under 18.

Time Commitment: We ask that volunteers commit to at least 5 hours of volunteer work per month. Our all day program runs 8 am-3 pm, and the after-school program runs from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm, and special events that may occur throughout the month.

Training & Support: Volunteers will be required to attend a training session that will cover Boys and Girls Club of Harlem policies, programs, interactions information, operations standards, and gain an overall understanding of our mission. Volunteers will be supported with regular check-ins to ensure programs are running smoothly, and volunteers are confident in their abilities.

Benefits: Provide support to youth and staff and strengthen flexibility/adaptability skills.

All Volunteers 18 and older are required to fill out a background check form before volunteering. Submit a Volunteer Application. Sign release forms that allow us to perform the screening process. Lastly, Fingerprinting and Medical screening are required based on the New York State Department of Health Guidelines.

Boys & Girls Club of Harlem adheres to all CDC, NYS Office of Children & Family Service protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, as the virus is not fully contained, we are not able to guarantee you or others can’t get infected. By agreeing to volunteer, volunteers waive liability for Boys & Girls Club of Harlem during the volunteer hours.
