For over 40 years, The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem have committed to supporting our members with leadership and character development. We need adult role models to pass the baton by providing their wisdom and good judgment. The sessions are small-group health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of young adults. Through dynamic sessions, highly participatory activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities Youth explore their own and societal attitudes and values as they build skills for social-emotional wellness, leadership, academic excellence and community advocacy. Key Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist with age appropriate academic support, learning initiatives and athletic activities for youth ages 8-12 or 13-17. Volunteers will be expected to support their needs through conversations, academic support, mentoring and sustained engagement. Volunteer will engage group learning enrichment working with both middle school and high school youth groups. Volunteer is expected to maintain confidentiality of all participants.
Qualifications: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is desired, however, not required. Volunteers must also be able to pass a background check if over the age of 18 and have parental permission if under 18.
Time Commitment: We ask that volunteers commit to at least 5 hours of volunteer work per month. Our afterschool program runs Mondays thru Fridays from 4pm-7pm and includes special events that may occur throughout the month.
Training/Support Provided: Volunteers will be provided training regarding the program, its goals, interacting with teens and the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem policies. This includes discussing the ambassador program and its goals further. Volunteers will also be supported viaregular check-ins to ensure the program is running smoothly and to answer any questions.

All Volunteers 18 and older are required to fill out a background check form before volunteering. Submit a Volunteer Application. Sign release forms that allow us to perform the screen process. Lastly, Fingerprinting and Medical screening are required by the New York State Department of Health (or: Lastly, based on the New York State Department of Health Guidelines, Fingerprinting and Medical screening are required. )
