Have you been looking for a meaningful way to help others? At Samaritans, you will make a significant and lasting impact while helping others on our 24-hour emotional support and suicide prevention hotline.
Volunteers love the personal satisfaction that comes with helping individuals that need and appreciate your compassion and support as well as the camaraderie of working alongside like-minded, caring individuals. We know your time is valuable. Rest assured, it will be very well-spent at Samaritans!
You will have the opportunity to provide support to people who are experiencing some form of personal crisis--from a difficult loss or a broken heart to a chronic disease or depressive illness. Samaritans hotline is non-religious and it responds to people of all ages and all backgrounds to who feel overwhelmed or depressed and need someone to talk to.

Samaritans is currently accepting applicants for the August 2020 Hotline Training Class. If you are interested in becoming a Samaritans volunteer, please contact us to attend the upcoming orientation session for this class.

Samaritans of New York operates the city's 24-hour suicide prevention hotline. Last year, we answered over 82,000 hotline calls. Samaritans is part of a well-established international network of 400 centers in 42 countries where over 20,000 volunteers provide crisis response and emotional support services to people who are in distress, depressed and suicidal.

Requirements
We are currently seeking volunteers who can donate one weekday morning, afternoon, evening or overnight shift a week. You'll be joining a great group of volunteers who work together in a supportive environment in a convenient Village location. Must be at least 21, have good communication and listening skills and be able make a 6-month commitment after training. No experience necessary!
