Description
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)'s flagship volunteer opportunity is our Vision Mate Program. This provides one-on-one sighted volunteer assistance to people in their community who are blind or partially sighted. They are paired for activities such as reading, friendly visiting, walking, swimming, shopping, and so many more. We have clients who are in need of volunteers all over Alberta, and are always looking for more volunteers.

If you are someone who is looking to make that one-on-one connection and help someone within your community, this might be the opportunity for you. We look for volunteers who are friendly, positive, empathetic, responsible, and comfortable working with individuals with vision loss.

Being a Vision Mate is a very flexible opportunity as we determine your schedule based on your availability along with the individual you are partnered with. We do ask for a minimum 6-month commitment for this role.
Interested applicants would be required to attend a volunteer interview and orientation, provide references, and be willing to undergo a police information/vulnerable sector check. Volunteers for this position must be 16 or older.

If this sounds like an opportunity you might be interested in, please go to https://cnib.ca/en/form/volunteer-application?region=ab or email abnvolunteers@cnib.ca .
