Organization is a great place to be, to make a real difference in a community. Chipembere
Community Development Organization (CCDO) is based and implements its project in Thyolo
district, southern region of Malawi. The district is very conducive for volunteers, where the
visitors enjoy our local cultures and traditions. The district is rich with many interesting things
which can be valued by overseas visitors.

WHAT WILL BE VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT
ARRANGMENTS?
ACCOMMODATION ARRANGEMENTS
CCDO will provide the volunteers with rented house close to our office. The house has electricity,
and water taps close. However, the volunteers are more encouraged to use local means, experience
real rural life in terms of basic needs, until the end of placement.
TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Since our organization is struggling financially we encourage that the successful volunteers will be
required to solicit their own transport, visa fee and other expenses that include to and from their
home country , CCDO will only be able to pay in-country (this is the type of transport to be used in
Malawi during placement period)transsport.The volunteers will enjoy visiting some of our
interesting places like Lake Malawi, Mulanje Mountain and our national parks and game reserves
DURATION OF THE PLACEMENT
The volunteers are needed to stay with CCDO for about six month or more as long as we are able to
provide for the daily basic needs. The volunteers will assist us in implementing various projects in
our catchment areas and we hope to provide the basic needs through those projects.
WHY ARE WE INTERESTED IN INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS INSTEAD OF
USING LOCAL VOLUNTEERS?
The international volunteers are ideal in the sense that they will expose the organization to
international donors of which some of them will be interested in our works. We believe that with
international volunteers, our organizational profile will be raised as we help local communities
through our charity works. Many volunteers from overseas easily adapt the rural community
settings and are able to stay in rural areas as part of adventure, unlike the local volunteers whose
demands will be beyond our earnings. We want the volunteers who will understand what our
organization i
s going through, and accept to be part of great change. We are looking for the well experienced
volunteers who have vast knowledge with Sub-Saharan African society, those that are willing to
work with small community organization. As stated in the introduction, Chipembere organization
operates at district level is well registered with Malawi government with full legal status. The
international volunteers will be a great milestone for our capacity building.
WHAT ARE EXPECTED INPUTS AND OUTPUTS OF THE PLACEMENT?
By the end of the volunteer session, we expect the volunteers to bring in new knowledge, which
will change our organization forever. Since CCDO is a local organization, we expect that the
volunteers will shape our organization to a right position in terms of capacity building, and that our
organization will be able to implement the projects that have great impact to the local people that
we serve, through the proposals that will be written by the volunteers. The volunteers who have
direct link with the donors, those that will assist on financial and administrative management, will
be much valued. We believe that overseas volunteers will bring in ideas that will assist the growth
of our organization. To this end, we hope to implement various projects with volunteers, through
the same projects, we will sustain our daily living. With the level of our organization currently, it is
very difficult to secure enough funds from international donors. We want volunteers who will
concentrate a lot on connecting the organization to many several international bodies who will be
interested in our work.
Health insurance and security..
The upcoming volunteers will be able to access free health and medical insurance from our partner
health institution which will provide a safe stay in the country. In addition to that they will also be
given security insurance in their apartment where whey will be staying.
Immigration document for the incoming volunteers will be arranged if the interested parties have
successfully filled the application form and are eager to come and volunteer in the country.
